HOW TO ADD A LINK TO YOUR INSTAGRAM STORIES

Being able to add links to your Instagram stories is HUGE. You make it so simple for your audience to do what you’ve asked – they see or hear something they like and all they have to do is simply swipe up to see more. It’s not overwhelming, it’s not pushy – it’s a really good strategy to gain more traffic and subscribers.

THE BAD NEWS? IT’S NOT AVAILABLE TO EVERYONE.

If you’re wondering how to add a link to your Instagram Story, it’s probably because you can’t. The actual set up is pretty simple – right up in the top corner beside all the other options (like text, pens, and stickers), there is a little link icon. From there you simple ad a link in the designated line, hit ‘done’ and you’re good to go.

Instagram has limited this feature to only accounts with 10,000+ followers.

Until you get 10,000 subscribers OR Instagram lowers the expectations (unlikely), there are 3 things that you could try:

If you can’t or don’t want to watch a video, you can find written instructions with GIFs to guide you through just below this. Scroll down to see.

GOOD IMAGES ARE EVERYTHING.

The average business needs a minimum of 32+ high quality images every month - to post on Instagram, Stories, Pinterest, your blog, and every other platform we're juggling. Make sure you always have something to post - get free, eye-catching photos for your business.

PRETTY LINKS

STOP USING LINK TREE
Don’t get me wrong – I LOVE an Instagram specific landing page.

Just another barrier that stands in the way of someone clicking. The more clicks in between the story and the content they want to see means more opportunities for them to NOT follow through. This is why the swipe up feature is so effective – it means ONE click from the desire to see something to actually seeing it. There isn’t an opportunity to for a change of heart.

put a graphic about website page load times

Think of website page load times. Most people are not even willing to wait a few additional seconds in order to see something THEY clicked on. Something they’ve already said they want to see through that action. Make them wait few seconds too long and they’re gone. The same applies here. If someone has to do one too many clicks along the way, you’ve lost that potential viewer.

Don’t even get me STARTED if your link tree has 10 links to choose from. I won’t even go there. But I will say this – if you insist on ignoring my sound advice, then keep your link tree.

A FEW LAST THINGS…

Being able to add a link to your Instagram stories is not the end all be all. Until you can get the swipe up feature, there are lots of other solutions you can use.

And if you really want to know a secret – the majority of my sales (as well as other business owners I know + my members) actually aren’t driven by Instagram traffic. 90% of my income is comes from my email list and Pinterest. You might want to look outside of Instagram all together to establish more sales in your biz.

HAPPY INSTAGRAMMING xx
